How to Create Great Content That Drives Traffic

You are not alone. Getting your content to stand out today is HARD work.

According to one source, there are over 2 million blog posts published every single day.

And I bet when you first started out marketing, to write a blog post a day and eventually people will come to your site. That is the worst advice ever. In 2010, I built it and no one came. Then it occurred to me that I was new in that industry and really had no idea what I was doing. I thought I did , but the numbers told me otherwise. So I decided to study successful blogs in my niche and see why they were working.

Then I used their proven approach as my framework, my traffic skyrocketed! So simple!
Let me show you this proven technique:

Step #1: Find content in  blog posts, webinars, giveaways,  in your niche that has performed well.

Step #2: Take what you find and make it even better.

Step #3: Promote your content directly to people that would be interested in it.

Step 1 -Ok, now where to find these post?

Reddit, Growthhacker, Linkedin, and if you are still having trouble, google it! My solution to everything.

Type in “Best Content Marketing Posts 2014” and see what come up.

Step 2 -Make it better. Use your magic. Or to find the latest keyword niches.
Now start writing!

Step 3– Promote.

Find Passionate People that are interested in what you are writing about

Want to find people that are very, very likely to link to your content?

Linkbuilding-Look no further than people that have already linked to similar stuff.

Because you have something objectively better than what already they’re linking to, asking for a link to your content is an easy sell.

How do you find who’s linking to your competitor’s content?

The million dollar question. And here is the million dollar answer.

(How much do you love me right now?)

Ok, here we go.

Understanding your Target Market and Where to Find Them

Before you start promoting any of your products, you first need to know who your ideal client is for purchasing your product or service?
In the marketing world, this client is called your avatar. This is the internet’s slang for your target market. To define your avatar, ask yourself these questions:
1 )How old are they?
2) What is their demographic?
3) How much money do they make?
4) What are their challenges and frustrations?
5) What keeps them awake at night?
6) What problems do they need to solve?

You can find out more email list building techniques
from my: Free Email Listbuilding Class.

Get it here to learn how I tripled my email list in one month

Now get out your Evernote, Word document, or an old-school notebook and take some time now

to answer these questions before we get to the next step.

Congratulations! You now have a clearer understanding of who your target market is. You won’t see this now in the early stages,

but trust me-This is so important to building a profitable business.

Now that we have defined our avatar, we need to find what their problems are so that we can create solutions to their problems.

Below are some crucial questions you need to ask:
Finding Their Problems:

What is they hungry for?
What makes them spend money
What are they spending money on?
What keywords/language are they using?

You might find this step unecessary but NOT knowing what their problems are
will make it harder for you to make a profit quickly. AND not only will you will burn through your
advertising budget since you won’t be targeting directly to your audience, but your conversions won’t be as high since
your ad headline won’t be solving their direct problem.

Knowing these answers will help you talk to your customers in a way they are familiar.
You will be speaking their language and be able to develop a relationship quickly with these guys.
Also, the more you know about their problems, the more you solutions you can provide.

So how do I find this information?

The best way to find this is in related Facebook groups, blogs, and forums.

Here is an example:

Let’s say I am a business coach, and I have a new marketing coaching program I want to introduce.
In Facebook, I would do a search for a marketing niche, and see what come up.
I would the join facebook groups for marketing and see what the common threads are.
I would also post directly in the group and ask what they need. So simple, right?
You still show credibility and they would be happy to contribute because
you are someone who wants to help them.

Observe your niche in all of social media. What are the most popular discussions?
By reviewing the forum threads, what are some of the common problems you can solve?

Also, look at some of the trends and hot topics that are coming up in your industry.
Search blogs like Reddit, Quora, Huffingtonpost.
Search feeds in Social Media: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc
Search Google and use keywords like “Common Problems to… ( your niche) , “Trends in… ( your niche)”

The more information you know about your avatar/target market, the more solutions you can provide them.

Actions for Today:

1) Make a list of your ideal avatar.
2) Google Forums, Facebook Groups. and social media that are specifically for your niche.
2) Make a list of what problems they have.
3) Make a list of what solutions you can provide them.

Why Google ‘s New Algorithm is Better for Small Businesses

Recently Google changed their algorithm which affects your website’s SEO rankings.

Here are some changes they made:

If your site is responsive, you will get higher rankings then others that only have a desktop “fixed” layout. This is great because it’s getting people do something they should have done years ago, and now Google has given people an incentive to do so.

Another amazing thing that Google has changed is creating an “branding opportunity ranking”. Meaning the small entrepreneur can still win against the blue chip companies as long as they keep their stellar online reputation . This means that the companies that to post regularly, write valuable content on their site, have good “Klout” status, and keep up your white hat tactics, you will most likely get ranked high in the eyes of Google.

How is your online brand perceived has become a very big piece of even Google algorithm because getting your website found with keywords is still a very big piece for digital marketing. It’s not a majority but it’s still a very big piece of it. So if you have a small or medium sized company how do you build your online branding? That becomes a real challenge. in the new arena today in digital marketing, having a great online brand becomes very important. So there are a lot of things, you have social media, you have reputation development, the blogging and getting mentions all over. All those things have become far more important today. At this point you know Google is god when it comes to digital marketing.

This is music to my ears because it wasn’t so long ago that black hat practices were being used, like buying backlinks, content spinners, etc and received high rankings. Now people that do that get banned.
No more one trick ponies that would promised to get you on page one by duplicating content, and buying old domains. Now everything is needed and that is a relief. Having a good brand and being ethical is long term approach to marketing. If you are going to be in this game for the long term, you now need to use the best ethical methods instead trying to make it overnight. Justice for all! Bye-bye, Black hats!
